Civil Engineering
Civil Engineers create the essentials that are often taken for granted in our everyday lives. Examples are water supply systems including treatment works, dams, and pipelines ; waste management facilities such as landfills ; transportation systems such as roads, railways, airports and harbours ; and structures such as bridges, sports stadiums, office blocks and convention centres.
The University of KwaZulu-Natal offers a broad-based Civil Engineering qualification that is up-to-date, relevant to industry and society, and is internationally recognized. Our graduates readily find top jobs with leading companies or develop successful businesses of their own.
Land Surveying
The Land Surveying Programme, formerly Department of Surveying and Mapping, was established by the late Professor Harry Biesheuvel in 1948 soon after the end of the Second World War, catering at first for soldiers who had served in the Survey Battalion. The model used for the newly established Department then was similar to that used for the University of Cape Town department established in 1926
